Petition Demanding Action to Protect Residents from M5 Noise, Light & Air pollution

Dear Resident,

As you will know, National Highways, at the request of National Grid, have recently felled all of the trees and shrubs along the fence line of the M5 behind Powell Avenue and Clay Drive, much to the dismay of those living in the area.

Many of the trees felled have been in place for half a century and provided a vital barrier between residents' homes and the motorway, reducing the noise, light and air pollution caused by traffic on the M5.

Whilst the trees have already been felled, it is our view that National Highways and National Grid must take immediate action to mitigate the effects of their removal.

We are therefore calling for:

- The immediate replacement of the trees, with fast-growing, non-invasive mature trees,

- Reinforcement and/or insulation of the fence to act as a better sound barrier,

- The reduction of the speed limit on this stretch of the M5 to 50mph,

- Steps to reduce light pollution such as street light shields

- Compensation for the residents effected.

It is now up to us as a community to show our support for these proposals to try and force National Highways and National Grid to listen to our demands. Please sign the petition.

Yours faithfully,

Cllr Dominic Stanford & Connor McCormack
